Gather your team, build your bed, and join us for one of Bar Harbor’s most entertaining annual traditions! The Bar Harbor Bed Races bring local businesses, organizations, and community groups together for a morning of friendly competition, creativity, and plenty of fun in downtown Bar Harbor.
Whether you're racing for the win, showing off an unforgettable bed design, or simply getting your team involved in the community, we'd love to see you at the starting line this November.

How The Bed Races Work
Teams of 5 design and build their own race-ready bed, choose their racers, and compete head-to-head through downtown Bar Harbor.
Creativity is highly encouraged! We love seeing teams bring their businesses and organizations to life through costumes, themes, decorations, and unique bed designs.
The races take place as part of the annual Early Bird Pajama Sale & Bed Races, bringing spectators downtown to cheer on their favorite teams and enjoy the festivities throughout the morning.
Who Can Participate?
The Bed Races are a great opportunity for local businesses, nonprofits, community organizations, clubs, and other groups to get involved.
You don't have to be a seasoned racer. You just need a team, a qualifying bed, and a willingness to have some fun!
Participating is also a great way to:
- Get your team involved in a beloved Bar Harbor tradition
- Showcase your business or organization in front of the community
- Get creative with your bed, costumes, and team theme
- Connect with other local businesses and organizations
- Compete for awards and, of course, bragging rights
Build Your Bed
Every team will need to bring a race-ready bed that meets the official Bed Race requirements.
Before you start building, be sure to review the 2026 Bed Race Rules & Requirements for information on bed construction, team size, safety requirements, race procedures, and other important details.
Bring Your Team Spirit
The race itself is only part of the fun.
We encourage teams to get creative and make their entry their own. Coordinate your pajamas or costumes, decorate your bed, choose a theme, and bring plenty of team spirit.
It's a chance to represent your business or organization while creating something memorable for everyone who comes downtown to watch.
Ready To Race?
Registration is required for all participating Bed Race teams. When registering, you'll provide your team and organization information so the Chamber can prepare for race day and include participating teams in event communications. Click Register Now at the top of the page.
