Description

ArtWaves Fall 2022 Handworks Festival Anatomy of Knitting, a Workshop Saturday, November 12th Wendell Gilley Museum 4 Herrick Rd, Southwest Harbor 9:00am-4:00pm Special Festival Registration Fee: $45 (materials included) To Register: https://artwavesmdi.org/event-4982650 This workshop is for people who: already knit & purl. know at least one increase / decrease strategy. want to stretch their understanding of their craft. Workshop participants will explore the structure of knitting. Here are some questions I've found useful in my own exploration. How are stitches structured? What is your style of knitting? Why the heck do we have to swatch? How does the yarn structure affect knitting? What do charts bring to the knitting game? We'll address these and other questions during our day together. We'll also produce a knitted piece that can be sewn up the sides to make a little bag, or made longer to be leg or arm warmers, or maybe a cowl. What to bring: Your own questions. A piece of your own knitting to examine. DK or worsted weight yarn. Wool is better, but whatever you prefer to use is fine. Bring a couple of colors. Needles of the appropriate size for your yarn, probably US #6, #7, or #8. You can work with circular or straight needles. I'll be using circulars. There will be some yarn and needles available. I'll bring a selection of books and samples of my own work. NOTE: This workshop takes place at the Wendell Gilley Museum. About the Instructor: Susan Dewey Susan Dewey is a knitter and designer. She has this to say about her process: "Knitting is about structure, rhythm, and beauty. See how stitches meander, through cables, lace, and with color! Knitting tells the stories of culture. It has been used in espionage and celebrations. It is practical. It is versatile."
