Some bees just like to be alone. Mason bees and leaf-cutter bees are non-stinging solitary bees that nest in cavities. Want to help them find a home? Build a bee house with the Wendell Gilley Museum on Friday, April 28 in a three-hour workshop that starts at 10:30 a.m.
In these bee houses, there are 5-inch-deep drilled holes — deep enough to keep bees out of the reach of a woodpecker’s tongue. This workshop involves a little hammering and as much painting as you want. It’s is a great family project. The cost is $20 for museum members and $25 for non-members. This is an in-person workshop and participants must be at least 7 years old. Sign up through the Gilley’s website at www.wendellgilleymuseum.org/calendar
