Description

The topic of the MDI Science Café for Monday, June 8, 2020 will be “The Molecular Machine in-between Diet and Longevity” presented as a live online lecture by MDI Biological Laboratory faculty member, Jarod Rollins, Ph.D. The rate at which we age is determined by the expression of our genes. One critical part of gene expression is the activity of the ribosome, the molecular machine that produces protein in our cells. In the Rollins lab, we can quantify ribosomal activity using a technique called polysome profiling. We use this and other tools to understand how gene expression changes with age or with anti-aging treatments like dietary restriction. In this MDIBL Science Cafe, Dr. Rollins will explore the connections between diet, protein translation, and the rate at which we age. The MDI Science Café series is held bimonthly throughout the summer. We ask attendees to please preregister online so that we can send you the link to the online presentation.
