Description

Rediscovering the Collective Body: Improvisational Forms Join thorne weaver for an introduction to body movement! ArtWaves Dance Center 1345A Hwy 102 Bar Harbor Saturday March 25th 2:30- 5:00pm $71.25/. $61.25 ArtWaves Members Spring Promotion: Buy One -Get 50% off second class To REgister: https://artwavesmdi.org/event-5195920 Beginning with the proposition that we are already inherently connected, we will use improvisational movement structures to deepen our understanding of how this connection can affect and be affected by our bodies––how we interact and inform, share and navigate space, create ecologies of movement. image.jpeg Instructor Bio: thorne weaver pronouns they/agma I am a white nonbinary transdisciplinary artist and teacher from unceded Peskotomuhkate (“Passamaquoddy”) and Panewapskek (“Penobscot”) land. my current research engages self as nexus and gravity as consciousness––how we can cultivate a movement practice that is gentle, sustainable, kind, and ecologically informed? how does movement and our experience thereof change when we appreciate our fundamental nature as congealed expressions of gravity and energy? pulling from linguistics, cognitive science, chemistry, holistic herbalism, metaphysics, and various movement techniques, i aim to demonstrate and illuminate connectivity, and move towards a verbal way of living, rather than a nominal one. i am grateful to have learned from such considerate movers as Ishmael Houston-Jones, Miguel Gutierrez, Susan Sgorbati, Kieth Hennessey, Tommy DeFrantz, Deborah Black, Kathleen Hermesdorf, Cassils, and many others. my practice is heavily informed by my chronic illness, queerness, and neurodivergence, and is deeply rooted in healing through anti-colonialism and reindigenisation.
